PROJECT RANLIYA

Ranliya is a project comes under FOL's Help Enterprise Program, which helps a group of ambitious mothers who live in Padaviya area of Anuradhapura district called, Ranliya Kulagana Society. They run a home-based manufacturing operation of items such as school bags, casual bags, female underwear, mosquito nets, soft toys and many more household items.

Initially, this micro venture has been operating well, but later ran into difficulties gaining market opportunities sufficient for them to survive, despite the high-quality products they produced.

In line with the objectives of Help Enterprise Program, FOL decided to help this enterprising mothers group, by purchasing school bags and other items annually for its Help Learn project, which needed those items to donate to hundreds of students every year. No doubt that this was a great help for Ranliya ladies who were desperately seeking a market for their products. Now they have a new hope for them to thrive and continue to operate their home-based industry.

ITEMS PURCHASED ANNUALY FROM RANLIYA

The members of Ranliya who work on micro-enterprise activities to generate income for their families

RANLIYA - 2022

For the third consecutive year, FOL worked with the Ranliya Kulagana Society, helping them to improve their homebased micro enterprise. In 2022, we purchased 125 synthetic leather school gags, 400 fabric bags and 525 pencil cases. Ranliya Society greatly appreciated this order, as it provided a golden opportunity for them to continue to work on their micro business. In particular, it was a great opportunity for them to earn some extra income during an extremely difficult period, due to the unprecedented economic problems that severely affected all the working families in Sri Lanka.

RANLIYA 2021

In 2021, Ranliya Kulagana society supplied 125 synthetic leather school bags and 200 fabric bags to FOL.

With this order, FOL supported them to boost their sales to some extent by purchasing the required school bags for the HELP LEARN project, instead of buying them from large bag manufacturers or imported products.

We are pleased to be able to contribute to this socially uplifting local enterprise again for the second consecutive year that empowered women in a rural area.

RANLIYA 2020

2020 was the first year of Help Learn Project for which FOL was planning to purchase 210 school bags to donate to selected disadvantaged school children in remote parts of Sri Lanka. Instead of buying those bags from a large manufacturer or an importer, FOL decided to buy them from a local entrepreneur.

FOL found that, Ranliya Mothers Group has been operating for the past five years but was struggling to generate continuing sales opportunities, despite the high-quality products they produced. From the initial research through the volunteers in Sri Lanka, FOL found that, this group was made up of capable and enthusiastic women who can supply quality products in line with FOL's needs.

As a result, 2020 requirement of 210 synthetic leather school bag order was given to Ranliya Mothers group and they completed the order and delivered high-quality products on time.
