HELP LEARN

FOL's flagship project

Help Learn is Friends of Lanka’s first project, implemented annually to support school children from low-income families in remote areas of Sri Lanka. The project provided stationery and other essential school supplies, enabling students to remain in school and continue their education.

Launched in 2019 with 200 selected students across 3 districts, the project has grown steadily. By 2024, it was supporting 600 students from 6 districts, offering significant relief to families who otherwise struggled to afford basic educational needs.

The tables below highlight the achievements and reach of the Help Learn Project from 2019 to 2024.

Help Learn 2025 - English Learning

Give the Gift of Language – Empower a Child’s Future
While donating educational materials proved vital for its beneficiaries up to 2024, recent changes in government support initiatives have prompted a strategic shift. Starting in 2025, Help Learn will transition from material support to a more sustainable approach—empowering students through skill-building and knowledge enhancement, particularly in English language education. This model of Help Learn will be implemented as a pilot project in 2025.

In Sri Lanka’s remote and regional communities, thousands of children dream of a brighter future. However, without access to quality English education, many face limited opportunities for higher education and career advancement. Friends of Lanka (FOL) is launching the Help Learn English Language Pilot Program to change that.

Help Learn 2024

For the fifth consecutive year, FOL implemented its flagship project, HELP LEARN. 603 children from 49 schools in 6 districts: Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Galle, Monaragala, and Mannar received school stationery and other educational items.

Help Learn 2023

For the fourth consecutive year, FOL implemented its flagship project, HELP LEARN. 573 children from 52 schools in 6 districts: Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Galle, Monaragala, and Mannar received their school stationery and other educational items.

Help Learn 2022

FOL implemented its HELP LEARN project for the third consecutive year. Five hundred twenty children from disadvantaged families received stationery and other necessary items to continue their studies in 2023 without being a burden on their parents, who may otherwise be struggling to buy them.

Help Learn 2021

In December 2021, FOL successfully completed its flagship project, HELP LEARN, for the second consecutive year. 420 children from 38 schools in 4 districts: Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, and Galle received their school necessities and other items they needed for a full year of education.
